Electing & Supporting Our Local Republicans
The Grassroots Power in Columbus, Georgia
Vol. 2, No. 28--Post-Election Edition
November 6, 2008
Good morning. A quick roundup as we continue to recover from the 72 hour campaign blitz. 1)--Obama is in, we have to get to work. We can expect President-Elect Obama to immediately move to raise taxes and begin to float dozens of new federal programs. In order to prevent that from happening, we need as large a margin in the U.S. Senate as possible. As many of you know, we expect Senator Chambliss to be in a runoff with Jim Martin to be held on December 2. Several important pieces of information: --EARLY VOTING BEGINS AS SOON AS THE BALLOT IS BUILT. I will be checking daily to find out when you can go vote. We need to get our vote out in large numbers, and quickly before the holiday season overtakes events. --OBAMA WILL LIKELY COME TO GEORGIA TO CAMPAIGN FOR MARTIN. This will be Obama's first test since being elected. It is a great opportunity to deal his liberal policies their first defeat. --County GOP Meeting set for Tuesday, November 18 at 6:30 PM at the Headquarters. We will be planning our local runoff campaign effort at this meeting. Please make every effort to attend and bring friends. 2)--Election Night Party a Great Success amid bad election news--We had over 200 people attend our Party at the Marriott. It is one of the largest events we have had in the last four years and shows there is a lot of enthusiasm for our Party at the local level. Thanks to everyone who helped make it happen, particularly Senator Seth Harp for his generous financial support of the event. 3)--County Party Elections--We will be electing new leadership for our County Party for the 2009-2011 cycle in March at our County Convention. I will be naming a Nominations Committee soon to take information from people interested in running for County GOP office. More on this in a future Chairman's Report. 4)--Lincoln Day Dinner--We will be holding our first ever Lincoln Day fundraising dinner on February 12, 2009 and our honoree will be First Vice Chair of the Georgia GOP, our own Rob Doll. Please save the date and we will have more details soon. 5)--Revamped web site--We expect over the next two months to fully redesign our web site and make it the go-to site for GOP politics in our area. Details to follow. 6)--Volunteer Thank You--So many worked so hard in our HQ and at polling stations on Tuesday to help our case. We are so grateful for your efforts and will be calling on you again to help us in the final 20 day push to get Saxby re-elected. 7)--A word of encouragement--I spoke to a friend of mine who is an old hand at Republican politics yesterday. He told me that in the mid-term disaster of 1974 and President Ford's defeat in 1976 that the Republican Party was doomed to go the way of the Whigs. But in fact it was those defeats that shook the Party out of its malaise and gave way to the Reagan Revolution. The results, while disappointing, give us the opportunity to seize the initiative and help to write a new chapter in the resurgence of conservatism in America. I hope you will join me and other Republican leaders in renewing our purpose and coming forward with new ideas and standing firm on old principles. As President Reagan said to CPAC in 1975, this is a time for raising a banner not of pale pastels but bold colors. Let's get to work!
